About The Glengower Hotel

The Glengower Hotel sits on the beautiful promenade of Aberystwyth with its breath-taking views and scenery. Aberystwyth (English translation: Mouth of the River Ystwyth) itself is a historic market town that has a strong reputation for tourism. It also has a large student population as it is home to Aberystwyth University, founded in 1872.

The hotel was converted from two of the Victorian terraced houses, one of which was the home to Sir John Williams Bart, founder of the National Library of Wales, Physician to the Royal family and more interestingly one of the suspects in the Jack the Ripper case.

Although substantial work was carried out during the transformation, the hotel has managed to retain many of the Victorian architectural features. The lounge bar is the perfect location for all seasons, with its cosy and warm furnishings it is an ideal location to enjoy a refreshing drink or a bite to eat whilst watching the winter waves beat down on the shores. During the summer months, our front terrace is one of the most popular places as it catches the sunshine all afternoon and evening. You can often see a stunning sunset on the horizon from here.

Meet the Manager…..

Ian Richards has been the manager at the Glengower Hotel for almost 8 years bringing his bubbly personality and wealth of knowledge to the place. Although not originally a local, Ian has long since become part of the Aberystwyth community and is a friendly face known about town. Since ‘Stange and Co.’ took ownership of the hotel and Ian came on board, the hotel has gone from strength to strength with a family friendly atmosphere and many guests returning time upon time to enjoy a restful and relaxing stay in the most stunning of locations.
